GAME ON CONFERENCE

Are you a sports coach or club administrator? Do you want to find out more about sports development opportunities in Belfast?

If so – Belfast City Council’s ‘Games On’ conference is for you.

It takes place on Thursday 25 February from 6pm to 9.30pm in the Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast, and is targeted at club coaches, administrators and other sports development personnel.

During the conference, staff from the Belfast City Council Leisure Development Unit, together with the council’s sports and physical activity partners, will talk about key sports development issues affecting clubs in the city.

The event will also feature special sporting guests.

The Game On sports development conference costs £5 per person. You must register and pay for the conference before you attend.

Agenda:

6pm – Arrival, registration and refreshments in the foyer of Holiday Inn

6.30pm to 6.50pm – Welcome address by Joel Taggart (BBC Northern Ireland)

7pm to 7.40pm – Workshops

7.50pm to 8pm – Keynote speaker (Simon Toole, Clubmark Northern Ireland)

8.05pm to 8.45pm – Workshops

9pm to 9.30pm – Question and answer session with Joel Taggart

9.30pm – Close.

There will be two workshop sessions during the conference and all workshops will run twice throughout the evening.

If several people are attending from the same club, we recommend that participants attend as many sessions as possible so they get the most out of the event.

Workshop 1 – Grant aid, funding access and attainment
Information and good practice examples of current and future funding sources open to sports clubs in Belfast and Northern Ireland.
Workshop 2 – Facilities funding and capital building projects
Information and best practice procedures for finding and securing funds for capital building projects and new facilities.
Workshop 3 – PR and marketing
Best practice advice on how to promote your club and develop external links through the media.
Workshop 4 – Women and girls’ participation
Audrey Barr, manager of Women in Sport and Physical Activity (WISPA), will showcase and highlight ways to encourage female participation and performance.
Workshop 5 – Inclusion
Information on how to make sure your club is accessible to everyone (facilitated by Disability Sport Northern Ireland and Knights Wheelchair Basketball Club).
Workshop 6 – Coaching and coach personal development in club sport
Best practice methods and procedures to up-skill, educate and retain coaches within sports clubs.
Workshop 7 – Club development (Belfast Clubmark 2010)
Information about the accreditation process and the procedures required for best practice sports club administration and coaching.
Workshop 8 – Volunteer recruitment, retention and reward
Best practice processes for recruiting and retaining volunteers. This workshop will focus upon volunteer coaches and amateur sports clubs.
