Basketball Northern Ireland is seeking an ambitious and driven Operations Manager to play a key role in delivering the future of basketball across Northern Ireland.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the governing body of the sport at a pivotal time, helping to deliver on our Strategic Plan 2023–2028 and support the continued growth of basketball at all levels of the game.

The Role

As our Part-Time Operations Manager, you will lead the day-to-day operations of the organisation while supporting its long-term growth and sustainability.

You will work closely with the Chairperson and Board of Directors to ensure strong governance, effective delivery of programmes, and the continued development of Basketball NI as a modern, progressive sporting organisation.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational delivery, strategic thinking, and relationship management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the operational delivery of Basketball NI activities and programmes
  • Support the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2023–2028
  • Oversee governance, administration, and financial management processes
  • Develop and grow sustainable revenue streams and commercial partnerships
  • Manage and support staff, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Represent Basketball NI across key stakeholder groups including government and sporting bodies
  • Ensure the organisation operates to the highest standards of compliance and professionalism

About You

We are looking for a motivated and capable individual who can bring leadership, structure, and energy to the organisation.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, delivery, and organisational growth
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful partnerships
  • Experience in financial and administrative management
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An inclusive leadership style with the ability to influence and motivate others

Experience within sport is desirable but not essential.


Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant field or a third-level qualification in a related discipline
  • Minimum of five GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic delivery and sustainable growth
  • Strong organisational, administrative, and IT skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal ability
  • Full driving licence and ability to travel independently
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in sports administration or development
  • Experience reporting to a Board and leading organisational development
  • Knowledge of or involvement in basketball
  • Experience working or volunteering in a community or sporting environment

Contract Details

  • Salary: £24,000 per annum (pro rata) plus pension contribution
  • Hours: 20 hours per week
  • Contract: One-year fixed term (with potential extension subject to funding)
  • Reporting to: Chairperson and Board of Directors
