Are you interested in developing yourself in the field of coaching ? If so the Foundation Degree in the Science of Sports Coaching will assist you. The need to adopt a more systematic and professional approach to coaching is now widely acknowledged. Opportunities for paid employment in the field of sports coaching are rapidly increasing with clubs, governing bodies and statutory agencies all prepared to invest in the recruitment and development of young people in sport and the nurturing of elite performers.
The introduction of this Foundation Degree in 2005 has been supported by Sport NI, Sports Institute NI and Governing Bodies of Sport, all of which are seeking to elevate the status of sports coaching. The development of this academic award will allow students to engage in an in-depth analysis of all facets of coaching and ensure the development of a knowledgeable and committed coaching ‘workforce’.
2008 saw the first cohort of students graduating with a number of these students deciding to take up further study within the University and further a field. It is anticipated that a further 12 students will be graduating with this Foundation Degree in July 2009.
Bursaries have been awarded by SNI and the IFA for students to assist with their studies within the course (payment of fees). Further awards will be made available for this academic year (2009 – 20010), applications will be available from end September start October 2009.
