NISF is represented on a Volunteer Now led Governance Research Advisory Group. See below purposes of the research and also a number of Focus Groups which are being held to aid the development of the research.
The purpose of the research is to:-
- Revisit the 2003 research findings of Committee Matters (an assessment of the characteristics, training needs and governance roles of voluntary management committees in N Ireland) and compare with what Governance of the voluntary and community sector looks like in 2014/2015.
- Consider if the needs of Trustees have changed over the last decade.
- Consider if the issues facing Trustees have changed, in particular
- if new charity legislation around registration is presenting new challenges for volunteer Trustees.
- if Trustees feel the formation of the 11 new local authorities will impact on their role and responsibilities.
- Gain evidence to inform the sector, Government and the Charity Commission of needs and issues that need addressed now in order to ensure future effectiveness and sustainability of the sector.
