IFA – Legal Chair and Vice Chair Positions for Player Status Committee

Background

The Irish Football Association is the governing body for association football within Northern Ireland and is the fourth oldest Association in World Football.

The Association has recently undertaken a review of the committee responsible for player registrations and as a result, seeks to recruit a legally qualified chair and vice-chair.  It is expected that applicants should have an interest in and empathy with association football and would wish to make a positive contribution to its administration at an exciting time for the game in Northern Ireland.

The positions will be for an initial tenure of three years and the successful applicants will commence their respective roles immediately.

The positions are non-remunerated, although appropriate out of pocket expenses when incurred will be reimbursed. An induction session will also be conducted by the Association.

Player Status Committee

The Association is seeking applications from individuals who have a legal background to serve as Chairman and Vice- Chairman of the Association’s Player Status Committee. It is essential that at least one of the individuals has knowledge of employment law. The positions are reserved for independent members only (those who are not connected to any of the IFA’s member clubs, leagues or associations).

The Committee is constituted under the Association’s Football Regulations and consists of the Chairman and Vice- Chairman and 6 other members who represent the football family.  Meetings are held on average every 6 weeks but may be held more regularly, if required.  The Committee operates under Professional/Amateur Game Player Registration Regulations which are compliant with FIFA and UEFA guidelines.

The Committee deals with the following matters:

  1. Registration disputes.
  2. Transfer disputes involving an amateur player.
  3. Contract disputes between a professional player and his club.
  4. Priority of registration disputes.
  5. Compensation disputes.
  6. To review, approve and monitor implementation of the regulations.
  7. To impose sanctions on leagues for non- compliance.
  8. All other player registration issues that may arise from time to time.
