NI Sports Forum appoints Ashley Hunter as New Chairperson

At its first ever virtual AGM on Monday 16th November, Ashley Hunter was appointed to the role of Chairperson of the Northern Ireland Sports Forum succeeding Richard Johnson who completed a three year term in the post.

Following his appointment, Ashley Hunter expressed his thanks to the NISF Board and Members for their support

“I’m delighted to be appointed as Chairperson of the Northern Ireland Sports Forum. Having served on the Board since 2014 it is has been really pleasing to see how the Forum has developed with the support of very dedicated colleagues on the Board and the staff team. We have evolved as an organisation through the provision of services and supports for our members and we will continue to work hard with other partners and stakeholders.

I would of course like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to outgoing Chairperson Richard Johnson who has been, and will continue to be a passionate supporter of not only the NI Sports Forum but to the wider sport and physical activity across a number of roles”.

Further changes to the Board were confirmed following the AGM with Disability Sport NI Performance Pathways Manager Elaine Reid, Ulster Hockey Executive Manager Marc Scott, Basketball NI representative Marc Mulholland and RYA NI Chief Operating Officer Richard Honeyford all joining the Sports Forum board. Long standing Board members Angela Platt and Gordon Reid have stood down from the NI Sports Forum and Richard Johnson paid tribute to their dedication and commitment to the Sports Forum

“After years of lengthy service, I would like to pay a particular thanks to Gordon Reid and Angela Platt who are stepping down from the Sports Forum Board at our AGM.

Gordon has always been able to outline the views and challenges facing a number of sports but with a particular focus on water sports activities.  It must be noted however that Gordon’s input into the governance standards of the Forum and continued modernization of our Articles of Association leaves us in such a strong place going forward and we are immensely indebted to Gordon for this.

Angela has been involved with the Female Sports Forum since its inception in January 2012 as well as serving as Vice-Chairperson for the past five years and I, for one, am grateful for the support that she has given me during my term in office”.

During the AGM the membership of the NI Sports Forum approved the Annual Report for 2019-2020 which can be found HERE.
