Sport & Recreation Alliance Leadership Convention

The Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Leadership Convention is an event put together to meet the needs of chief executives, chairs, directors and senior personnel in the sports sector, giving them time and space to consider and develop their skills. Last year it attracted 55 governing bodies and almost 200 delegates, meeting the expectations of 97% of attendees.

This year’s Convention is about Leading the future – skills and insight for 21st century leadership.  Our programme of speakers and workshops will give you the chance to consider the challenges and opportunities facing the sector, and the skills you will need as a leader to navigate them.

To help ask and answer questions about what it means to become a 21st century leader will be a superb list of inspiring speakers, including:

  • Craig Mathieson – A world-renowned polar explorer, who has led expeditions on the Arctic and Antarctic as well as being a special advisor to HM forces on polar training. Craig will also draw on his charity work with his ‘Polar Academy’, helping young people develop through polar adventures and experiences.
  • Sir Martin Narey – Former Director General of the Prison Service, Chief Executive of children’s charity Barnardo’s and the Government’s advisor on children, Sir Martin is the first public sector winner of the Chartered Institute for Management’s Gold Medal for Leadership for a decade.
  • Chris Key – A performer as Les Miserables lead, Jean Vijean, and currently the resident director on the London production (The Queen’s Theatre) and the associate director worldwide.  Chris has worked with senior leadership teams across a wide range of organisations including the FA and the NHS.  At the convention, Chris will talk about motivating and eliciting elite performances on a regular basis and the challenges this creates.
