The Federation of Irish Sport are delighted to announce details of its sixth Annual Conference on May 31st – Sport: The New Zealand Way – Grassroots to Greats – What can Ireland Learn?

The success of New Zealand in sporting terms has not alone been referenced by our Taoiseach, but also by a number of other prominent politicians. There are many similarities between our two nations. Both island nations; almost identical populations; similar climate; sports mad; huge pride in our sporting achievements; a major commitment to both participation and inclusivity. Participation in sport and recreation is part of a New Zealanders DNA – or as they put it ” New Zealand wouldn’t be New Zealand without sport and outdoor recreation.
So, what can Ireland learn from New Zealand? To answer that question the Federation of Irish Sport have invited two key figures in New Zealand Sport to speak at our annual conference. The keynote address will be delivered by Peter Miskimmin, CEO of Sport New Zealand, and two-time Olympian. Geoff Barry, General Manager, Community Sport, Sport New Zealand, Sarah Keane, CEO Swim Ireland, and President of Olympic Council of Ireland, and Mary O’Connor, CEO Federation of Irish Sport will also address the conference .The Federation is also delighted to announce that Brendan Griffin TD, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport with special responsibility for Tourism and Sport will open the conference on the day.
Who is the conference for?
The event aims to give an opportunity for National Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Sports Partnerships, Government representatives, High performance Coaches/Directors, Athletes, Players, Community Sport leaders, and representatives of different businesses investing in Irish sport to share ideas, learn from expert panels, network, meet industry experts and engage in lively debate.
The event will begin with registration and lunch at 1.15 pm, and the conference will commence at 2.30 pm.
